Ethical Breeder of Champion Anatolian Shepherds and Standard Longhair Dachshunds

My love for dachshunds began with my girls’ childhood miniature longhair dachshunds. Tootsie Roll was a black and tan mini who lived to be 15 and Frank was a red mini who lived to be 16 ½.  Tootsie Roll and Frank were so much a part of my girls’ lives and are why LaBrosa Kennels exists today. After years of commuting back and forth from Charleston, SC to San Francisco for work, I permanently moved in 2016 to settle down with my partner, Mark Kinney, to live life in Northern California as an empty nester.  Frank and Tootsie Roll were enjoying the good life in off campus housing during those college years, and it wasn’t long before I felt that void of not having a dachshund in the house. My 1st three dachshunds were Bodi Maxwell, a shaded cream mini, Henrik Gunther, a cream brindle mini, and Elinor Grace, a black and cream mini.

Our Home is Their Home

Those original 4 mini dachshunds did not turn out to be the "show quality" dogs I was expecting them to be, but they did help me to build a foundation of knowledge in which to move forward with!! Both Bodi and Chester did eventually earn their AKC championship. Bodi went on to excel in performance and earned his Junior Earthdog title and is currently pointed in his Dual Championship in the field. Elinor had one litter of 2 girls who are spoiled and loved beyond words in their forever pet homes. Henrik has earned his Novice Preferred Fast Agility title and continues to compete in agility at 8 yrs young!

My vision of someday becoming a respected breeder and a more serious exhibitor evolved over those 1st two years with my miniature dachsunds and I decided to start over with an even greater determination to forge ahead in my goals.  Rumer, my 1st standard sized longhaired dachshund came into our home and a year later, Lexi, another standard longhaired dachshund, came along,  These two beautiful girls became the foundation of LaBrosa Kennels.

In 2018, we moved to Foresthill, CA in the foothills of the Tahoe National Forest along a ridge between the north and middle fork of the American River.  We soon found ourselves researching how we could best protect our dachshunds from the frequent visitors of bear, mountain lions, coyotes, and birds of prey.  That is how our beloved Caymus came into our lives and joined us here at LaBrosa Kennels.  Her livestock might not be your typical sheep, goats, alpacas, or chickens on a ranch, but protecting these dachsunds is her job that she takes seriously! What an amazing breed these anatolian shepheds are!  They are beautiful, intelligient, fearless, fierce, gentle, athletic, agile, loving, and loyal.

My daughter, Rebecca Kovarik continues with the miniature longhaired dachshunds with her kennel PriMar Dachshunds, and has been very successful in the path she has created for herself.  She has beautiful dachshunds which are sound, healthy, and an exceptional representation of the breed.  Visit her website or email her at Rckovarik@gmail.comif you are looking for an outstanding miniature longhaired dachshund!!
